here are just a few pictures from our 4 day chrismas spree....

i started school. again. i'm taking a few prerequisite classes so that i can hopefully get into nursing school next fall. (fingers crossed.)

lucy turned one. (i'll post pics from her awesome party as soon as all is settled down from christmas.) it was bittersweet.... she's so big now. i love watching her grow; however, i grow sadder every day. she's so not a baby anymore :( one thing she is though... amazing. absolutely amazing.

so that's a really quick recap. it's all i have the energy to do tonight. we leave tomorrow to go to saltillo to have christmas w/my mom and stepdad then to aberdeen friday for christmas w/my dad and stepmom then back here christmas eve day for christmas here, which is christmas eve service at church then on to ju's grandfather's for christmas w/his whole fam then breakfast christmas day w/the rest of the roberson family. wow--i'm exhausted just typing it. but i'm looking forward to it. christmas will be so much fun w/lucy this year :)

merry christmas,

ju's sister had her baby! ara elizabeth harris was born on june 30th at 8:18pm and was 7lbs 1/2oz and 19 1/2 in. both mom and baby are healthy and at home. we went to visit this past monday... it's so weird to see/hold a newborn after toting around an almost 20lb baby! lucy looks like a giant next to ara. and holding ara felt like holding a feather! she's so tiny! and did i mention she has a head FULL of hair?! so so precious! i can't wait to go visit her again.

i've started planning lucy's 1st birthday! (yes, i am aware that her bday is 3 months away.. but you can't plan too early! especially if you want it to be a fabulous party :) i finally decided on a theme and a date (well i hope the date works. with a husband and a father-in-law farming, you never know..). i've started on the details and have been on the internet for hours and hours looking at blogs on bday parties and at diy ideas. i'm actually having a lot of fun so far! i'm getting the invitations done by jenny holloway designs... she is so talented and everything is custom! i'm excited to be able to send her by ideas/inspiration and her to create something just for us. a local lady, katie crenshaw, is making the cake. and the cookie mama will be making the cookies. i'm really excited about everything! especially started the diy projects for the party that i've lined up! i hope to start them in a few weeks.

in a week and a half, we're going to the beach w/my dad and stepmom and her family. i'm super excited to go back to the beach! we went when lucy was almost 7 months old and she didn't like the water, which, i do have to admit, was a bit chilly. i'm hoping she'll do better now! but she did enjoy the sand and people-watching (which she got honest!) so fun will be had, water or not!

here are a few photos that i'd like to share.....

i know it's been since february since i last blogged, so lots has happened since then. i'll just hit the high points...

lucy is such a big girl now! she's at such a fun age :) she loves to play w/all of her toys. and she loves to eat baby food. and she loves her walker. she is the happiest baby! she laughs all the time :) she likes to be scared (playful scared, not terrified). oh and sometimes she fake laughs or fake coughs--it's the funniest thing! also, she has 2 teeth! she's growing so fast; she's almost 18 lbs! a couple weeks ago, we went to the beach. it was me and lc, ju's mom and his sister. we had a girls' trip to santa rosa beach and had a fabulous time! lc did soooo good! she didn't like the water (ocean or pool); it was too cold for her liking but she loved sitting under the umbrella and playing w/her toys and just looking around. (she loves to people watch.. she gets it honest.) we're going back to the beach in july w/my family, and i'm hoping she likes the water more by then. i may start taking her to the country club pool so maybe she can start getting used to the water. here are just a few pics from the beach....

another big thing that's happened is that luce has started eating baby food! she loves it!! so far she has tried squash, carrots, sweet potatoes and peas. we were going to try green beans this week but when i made* them, they didn't puree quite like i wanted and i was afraid she would choke on them. so we just brought back squash and carrots until i run back to the store to get some fruit.

*i'm making her baby food. it is sooo easy! and cheap too :) everything i've made so far has been in batches-my mom got me these food storage trays, which essentially are ice cube trays w/lids. so all i have to do is go to the freezer, pick the food, pop it out of the tray and warm it up in the microwave. it's super easy. yesterday, i made 2 trays (24-1oz cubes) of squash, 1 of carrots and 1 of sweet potatoes... and it took maybe 30 minutes (minus baking the sweet potatoes). it's so good for babies too, since you know exactly what's going into it. no preservatives or anything like that to help maintain shelf-life. and you think of how much baby food costs..... this way is so much cheaper. the package of squash i got at our grocery store was maybe $3.50, and it had 2 large and 1 medium. it made 24-1oz cubes, which is about 12ish servings (usually she eats 2oz of each food).

before church, everyone met at julius' parents' house, which is a short walk from the church, to drop off food and have a quick hello. then we were off to the church. the baptism was at the beginning of the service. lucy did SO good! she was awake and just looking around the whole time. my mom said that she kept looking at the preacher when he was talking. then she would look around at all the people then back at me and her daddy. she didn't cry or fuss at all. she was an angel! after her baptism, she was passed to 'mimmy' (ju's mom) and she fell asleep. she woke up just in time to take a few pictures before heading back to the house for lunch. we had finger foods and everything was so delicious. now for the best part of lunch--the cake. i had been looking forward to this cake ALL week long... just ask ju. he was so tired of me talking about it. i actually dreamt about it.. twice. yeah yeah yeah, pitiful. i know. but what can i say?! i LOVE sweets!! after eating lunch and having dessert, lucy went to sleep, and the rest of visited. it was such a beautiful day. so sunny and just the perfect temperature. i spent most of the time on the porch, which is probably my favorite place at their house. all in all, the day was perfect. the only thing that would have made it better would have been if lucy has stayed awake longer... but everyone did get to see her happy and smiling before she went down. here are a few pictures from the day. something was going on with our camera, so the all of the pics are blurry except the few i took w/my phone.
(maybe if we had a scarf and some gloves for her but we only had a hat.) so ju came up with the idea of putting her in her bumbo in the window and raising the blinds to take a picture--perfect idea :) but she was napping at the time and by the time she woke up and was fed and happy, i had completely forgotten about it. go me. but there is still a good bit of snow on the ground so perhaps i can get my act together today.

our house :)

sammy wasn't sure what to think

ellie kept hopping around in it

sammy and ellie "attacking" bear (the shop dog)

sleep. it's an essential ingredient to a happy day for an infant. and for happy parents. unless, of course, your baby likes to nap in your arms.... it's sweet for a while, but then it becomes a "job" and ends up wearing you out. lucy is the type where she likes to be held while she sleeps-aren't they all until a certain point? and i've been obliging her until this past sunday. see, i hold her for an hour to hour and a half to make sure she's good and asleep then go put her in her crib. the problem with this is that 1)she's spoiled; and 2) i need her nap time almost as much as she does (to take a nap myself or to do things around the house or to just be me-baby free-for just a few minutes). so what's happening is that i get her to sleep then hold her to make sure she's good and asleep and then go put her in her crib. she'll sleep for maybe 30 minutes then wake up crying. now it's filtering into her bedtime routine as well.... she's been doing great at night... once i put her down, she's been sleeping all night. occasionally she'll have a bad night and wake up once, but for the majority of the nights-since she was about 9 weeks old-she's been doing great. until lately. since i'm so tired by her bedtime, i would get her to sleep by rocking her then would go to my bed and hold her until she was good and asleep and i would fall asleep too. then wake up in a couple hours and go put her in her crib. seems like a reasonable thing to do for an exhausted parent, right?! wrong. very bad idea on my part. at first i would just hold her for like an hour.. then it was an hour and half.. then 2 hours. then she realized that she would much rather stay in my arms then sleep in her crib. so i made the decision that it was time to let her cry it out. there are many thoughts and opinions on letting an infant cry it out... lots of people are against it. but as long as i know nothing is wrong with or hurting her, i think it's ok. no, it's not easy for me; but if i don't nip this problem now, it will only continue getting worse, which only makes it harder in the long run. i do, however, have a few mixed feelings on the whole method.... my main problem is thinking that she'll think we've abandoned her by not responding to her when she's crying. but i have to put my big girl panties on and realize that if she's not hurt and not needing anything, then she'll be ok.

sunday, day 1... she cried off and on (and never a real cry.. more like just loud whines) for 40ish minutes before she went to sleep. then only slept for 10. then resumed crying. the only good thing to her taking a very short nap--she was exhausted by bedtime and slept all night w/out waking up after she was put in her crib.

monday, day 2... awful. she cried what sounded like a terrible cry almost the entire time. i was really upset. ((side note: we have a video monitor so i'm able to look at her the entire time to make sure she's not hurt or what not.)) i could see that she was crying a combo cry-mad/spoiled cry and sleep fighter cry. so i let her continue to cry. it took about 40 minutes again until she finally stopped and went to sleep. she slept for 30ish minutes then resumed crying. it was the bad cry again. i let her continue as i finished my snack then went to get her and she was up for the afternoon. last night, i held her for about 35 minutes then put her in a crib. she woke up about 2 hours after i put her down and was crying. cried for like7 minutes then went to sleep. and slept all night.

it's supposed to get easier every day... supposed to being the key word. i'm optimistic though (otherwise, i might cry!). so we'll see how today goes.

in development news, luce has discovered how to roll from her belly to back! but she can't quite grasp how to get back to her belly! soon enough though. also, she's sitting up so well in her bumbo! she's getting bigger every day, which is really fun and really sad at the same time!

on her activity mat.. looking in the mirror

big girl in her bumbo!

so... labor is tough! we had to get to the hospital at 4am on tuesday, october 12. they started the medicine to induce labor at 5 and my dr broke my water at 7:30. 10 1/2 hours later, still no baby :( dr said i would more than likely have to have a c-section but i could wait a little longer to see if i would progress anymore-if i wanted to. i tried to wait, but the pain was so intense. called the dr back a mere 30 minutes after our previous c-section conversation and said ok. it took another hour for him to get ready for surgery (he was at work at the women's clinic right next door to the hospital). at 6:10pm lucy caroline roberson was born.

she is perfect. she is precious. she is amazing. she is everything i could've imagined. being a mother is the most wonderful thing in the world. even though being pregnant for 40 weeks (which does equal 10 months for those of you who think pregnancy only lasts 9 months!) and going through 13 hours of labor was so miserable (and recovering from a c-section is no walk in the park either), it is (obviously) worth it all. lucy is changing every day, which is both amazing and sad. this past tuesday, she turned 12 weeks. holy cow! it's been 12 weeks already?! i don't know how it goes by so fast :( i am so very thankful that i have such a wonderful husband (who is also an amazing father) who is letting me stay home with her. that news came 2 days before christmas and was, by far, the best present i have ever received. i couldn't imagine being at work and missing her first everything... not many moms get to stay home these days... i am truly so thankful. and blessed!

so this post is short. hopefully i can update again soon..... but no promises; life is hard with a newborn. lucy consumes every minute of my day (which i wouldn't have any other way :). i'm still getting adjusted. you'd think after 12 weeks that i'd have the hang of it. but it's hard. i'm a lot better now than i was at first though! here are a few pics of luce. while i have at least a million, there's not enough time to post them all!

enjoy! :)

bad news first.... our precious puppy, rocky, passed away on a wednesday (may 12th); that saturday, julius' grandmother passed away; and that sunday was the last day we saw our first "child"/kitty cat, sadie. it was a really bad few days, which took a good bit of time to attempt to get over. some days, i'm not over any of it. (you know how hormonal pregnant women can be!) we did get another long-haired, mini dachshund.... a male; coloring is called dapple. his name is sammy...

a few days after we got him

now for the good news.... we found out that our sweet baby is, in fact, a girl :) her name is lucy caroline roberson. (originally, lucy was the only girl name that we both loved and knew it had to be our daughter's name. we weren't even realizing that it is a family name... on julius' side. and my middle name is caroline. so lucy's name is from both sides!) due date is october 13th but after my last dr's appt, which was yesterday, they have decided to induce labor on the 12th--that's tuesday!!! ONLY A FEW DAYS AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! we are so excited and anxious to meet her. i just keep imagining what she'll look like! we had a 4d ultrasound done, which was amazing, but actually seeing her in person is going to be so wonderful. we have to be at the hospital by 4am on tuesday, so they can start the medicine at 5.... and hopefully we'll have a healthy baby girl not too long after (although i know that when labor is induced, it tends to take longer. we're praying we'll be the exception!) here's a pic (our favorite :) from the 4d ultrasound...
let's see.... what else is there to tell....

i can't think of anything at the moment. i'll try to take some pictures of lucy's room (and of course of her) and post them. but i'm definitely not promising a date on that! i know how crazy our lives will be for a bit :)Molly Robersonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16196613194374837084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821055438293320453.post-13182253004411049312010-04-24T18:56:00.000-05:002010-04-24T18:56:33.287-05:00big news :)so i know that months ago i said i was going to do better about posting and i have yet to do that. life's just busy! after working all day, i come home, straighten up the house-doing the minimal amount of chores possible-and then get supper ready. by the time all that's done, i have no energy to do anything but throw myself into bed. but a lot has happened since i last blogged.... so here we go with another catch up.

money honey!
i got a job!!!!!!!!! yay yay yay! about a week before my birthday, which was february 25th, i went for an interview at a place here in charleston called the diabetic shoppe (the company provides diabetic testing supplies to mississippi, alabama, tennessee, louisiana, arkansas, and texas). the interview went great and i started the job the monday of my birthday week. i'm a patient service representative, which means i speak with numerous patients a day trying to assist them with what they need to manage their diabetes. i really enjoy my job and the people with whom i work. and i couldn't have been any more lucky to get a job here in charleston, especially at this time.

ohhh baby!
we're expecting :) and we couldn't be happier!!!! before we got married, we always figured we would want to wait a few years to start a family. then something just happened, and one day we were talking about it and decided to start trying. as of today, i'm 15 weeks and 2 days.... due october 13th (and no, that isn't a friday :). we had our first ultrasound at our last appointment when i was 13 weeks; here are just a couple pics....

we had a beyond wonderful christmas. we are so extremely blessed, and i thank God every day for all of the wonderful blessings he has bestowed upon us. we started our christmas extravaganza here in charleston on the sunday of christmas week. then headed to aberdeen on monday for our 3 christmases there. we went to my grandparents' monday night, finished christmas shopping in tupelo & helped my mom cook and get everything ready (for her christmas on wednesday) on tuesday. continued cooking and getting ready for everything on wednesday; then christmas with her (my mom's) family wednesday night. then headed to aberdeen to spend the night with my dad and teresa. had christmas eve breakfast and gifts with them thursday morning. then immediately headed back here for christmas eve church service then christmas with ju's family at his granddad's that night. christmas day morning, we started with gifts at ju's parents with his mom, dad, sister, and brother; then breakfast at his aunt tridy's with the entire roberson clan. wow, i'm tired just from the recap! we got so many wonderful gifts (including my new car!!) and had such a great time with all of our family!
for new year's, we were an old married couple :) although we did have options, we decided we would rather just stay home with each other. (now, everyone who knows me knows that i'm a g'ma and go to bed around 9 every night!) so, i did not stay awake to ring in 2010. oh well!

since new year's, we have been trying to get this house in order! see, the guest bedroom started out as the room where we kept wedding presents and extra clothes that wouldn't fit in our room, etc. therefore, it has looked like a hurricane came through since we got married. well, we finally got it cleaned up! hooray!! i feel much better now.

did i mention that we finally organized our laundry room?! as part of our christmas from ju's parents, they bought us a deep freeze and some shelves for the laundry room. and what a difference it all made! you can see the floor in there now! everything is so organized--it's fantastic!!!

that's really about it for december and january. this month has just flown by! it seems like christmas was just yesterday, and now it's a day away from february (my b-day month :)!! alright, well time for me to get ready for church; then i'm going to enjoy a relaxing sunday at home with the hubby :)

i know i've slacked with the whole recipes on fridays thing... i have no excuse. anywho, here is a delicious recipe for any time of the year. the combo of applesauce and spices make for an amazing cake! here's the recipe:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 tsps baking powder

1 tsp ground cinnamon

3/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1/2 tsp ground cloves

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened

2 cups sugar

2 eggs

1 1/2 cups applesauce

1/2 cup raisins, optional

1/2 cup chopped walnuts, optional

1 recipe penuche frosting

cake

oven: 350-baking pan; 325 baking dish

preheat oven. In a medium bowl combine flour, baking powder & soda, and spices. set aside.

in a large bowl, beat butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed about 30 seconds or until softened. add sugar; beat until combined. add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. alternately add flour mixture and applesauce to beaten mixture, beating on low to medium speed after each addition until just combined. spread batter evenly in prepared pan or dish.

bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. cool in pan or dish on a wire rack. quickly spread penuche frosting over cake.

penuche frosting
in a 2 qt saucepan, melt 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter over medium heat; stir in 1 cup packed brown sugar. cook and stir over medium heat until bubbly. remove from heat; add 1/4 cup milk and 1 tsp vanilla. stir with a wooden spoon until combined and smooth. stir in 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar--when i made this, i only had about a cup or so of powdered sugar. but the frosting is already so sweet, it turned out fine.. i simply added 4 Tbsp of all-purpose flour to help thicken it up. continue beating with the wooden spoon about 3 minutes or until smooth and thickened. immediately spread over cake--i let it cool before frosting the cake.

i, of course, forgot to take a picture... go figure. one of these days i'll remember.

i love cooking! to me, it's kind of a way to push everything out of my mind and just go to this place where all that matters is the recipe in hand. it's relaxing and exciting at the same time. i thoroughly enjoy cooking. yesterday, i watched julie & julia. i very much enjoyed the majority of the movie! however, the ending somewhat disappointed me wasn't what i expected in a way.... i guess i can't say anymore.. don't want to spoil the movie.

speaking of julie & julia, i would like a copy of mastering the art of french cooking mtaofc). why? i'm not sure. it's certainly not so i can cook through it. i have the feeling that many of the recipes in mtaofc would not be appetizing to me, as i am the world's pickiest eater--i wish i weren't. despite how many recipes i will or will not make, i still would like a copy. and i think i want the 1st edition, even though the newer ones might have more tips, etc to make the processes easier... who knows. i'm rambling. which is exactly what happens when i'm tired. i guess i'm off to bed.... lots to do tomorrow. need to clean, clean, clean the house; finish wrapping christmas presents; and go to the grocery store. not to mention, just taking care of our 3 animals is a full day's work! :)Molly Robersonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16196613194374837084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821055438293320453.post-89500224467545634132009-12-13T14:50:00.000-06:002009-12-13T14:50:33.813-06:00lately...first of all, i can't believe it's december 13th! this entire year has just flown by. i remember when i first got engaged and i thought september 26 would never come! and now it's almost 2010. and secondly, i can't believe i haven't blogged in weeks. so this post will be a catch up..

a couple weekends ago, i went to west point to stay with celia for the weekend, and we went to starkville to see ms. anabess and mr. billy get married!! congrats to them! the wedding was sooo beautiful, sweet (short and sweet :), elegant.... it was perfect! it was so laid back--just family and close friends--and was just wonderful!

i left charleston friday afternoon and got to west point around 4ish and went to c's house. it was so good to see c!! and her mom and josh too. (i haven't seen anyone since the wedding :( so i've really been missing all my friends.) we had reservations at anthony's at 7:30--which seemed like way too many hours away to wait, as i was already starving by about 6. so we just got ready and caught up for a while. then we left for the liquor store-to get some wine-and got to anthony's around 7:45 (you would think that we would have been on time since we were ready by about 6:30.. but anyone who knows me knows that i can't ever be on time!) mallorie met us there... it started out with just me, c, and mal. but as the night progressed, we saw an old friend from high school, joseph huffman, and his sweet sweet wife, lauren. then, ty, john michael, steven, bonner, and jack howard joined us. we had a great time! i was sooo excited to have anthony's b/c i swear it's been at least like a year and a half since i've had it. i got chicken anthony-go figure-and got us crawfish for appetizer. everything was very yummy! after anthony's closed we went to soprano's (i said i would never go there.. but that was my first time and i have to admit that we had fun!). stayed til they closed-at 2-then went to ty's house for a bit. by the time we got back to c's house it was around 3:30 and i was exhausted!! i haven't stayed up that late in years! but we had a good time! it's always nice to see old friends!

we did thanksgiving here with ju's family then went to aberdeen the week after thanksgiving to visit with my parents. we took rocky, of course, and all my parents loved him! but who doesn't?! we did a small amount of shopping in tupelo--just to get some christmas decorations since we don't have anything. let me take this time to say that i really slacked this year! i was so excited about our first christmas together (well, as a married couple :) and in the end, i just procrastinated. we did get a few things and mrs. kathy-ju's mom-gave me an early christmas present... a fontanini nativity scene! my first set! i love it!! and we finally got a tree! we went to ju's grandad's land and cut one down! we couldn't find that perfect one at first; but we kept looking and as we were on our way out, we found it! right in the middle of a briar patch.. just our luck! but ju, being the wonderful husband that he is, went right out there and cut it down. and for our decorations for our tree, i already had bought some of the big bright old-fashioned lights a few months ago; so we put those on and then mrs kathy gave us boxes and boxes of christmas ornaments to go through. we used a bunch that ju remembers from his childhood.

tuesday.. it was raining when we woke up, but it didn't last long. pretty soon, we were lounging on the beach on the awesome beach beds in the fabulous preferred club's private beach. the ocean wasn't very smooth... the flag was red and the under-tow was bad. and the waves were semi-extreme. but it's our honeymoon and we're in the dominican republic with beautiful beaches, so we head for the ocean. not five minutes later, a wave knocks me down :( when i resurfaced, my ray-ban's were gone and my headband (which i probably paid 5 dollars for 5) was floating right next to me. just my luck. but i didn't let it rain on my parade.... no time to be sad on our honeymoon! the next morning, i bought a pair of sunglasses (not very attractive ones at that) and some chapstick with spf..... total cost=$30. really?

tuesday night we dined at the seaside grill. we both ordered their version of a surf-and-turf, which was good; then we had cheesecake for dessert.

let me take a moment to discuss the food. it was okay interesting. the world cafe, which was a huge buffet style restaurant with tons and tons of options, is where we had breakfast everyday. they had an omelet station, which was the closest thing to american-tasting food we ate. they also had a smoothie station that i loved! very neat and yuuuummy! now for the not-so-good.... the syrup didn't taste like syrup; therefore making it difficult to enjoy your pancake or crepe. the bacon (the sign said "bacon of pork"---ummm, where else would the bacon come from?!) didn't really taste like bacon, nor did the sausage taste like sausage. the lunch options were the same--lots of options but didn't taste like we were used to. pasta--not very good; sandwich meat--i was scared to try; but the shrimp and fish were very good and pizza was delicious!! needless to say, i survived on omelets and smoothies for breakfast and pizza for lunch. but hey, it wouldn't be a different experience if everything was the same as it is here. oh yeah, the restaurants that we ate at for dinner were great! with all food exquisitely displayed, of course.

ok.. now for thursday. same as other days. breakfast, beach, lunch, beach, preferred club lounge for drinks, dinner, back to room (the resort had activities that took place everyday. but ju and i aren't really the activity type... plus, we're on our honeymoon! no need to spend time with groups of people, just each other. so after dinner, we retired to our room). julius and i are big readers. and with a beach destination, we, of course, brought books. ju didn't enjoy his book... he thought he was off to a great start when the first page had the date july 17, 1996 (his birthday is july 17). however, he soon learned that he was wrong--that date marks the day a plane crashed... also, the book was based on actual events. (did i mention that when he began reading, we were on the plane awaiting take-off??) as if that wasn't enough, it ended with the 9/11 terrorist attacks. actually, i believe ju said there wasn't really an ending--no answers were revealed. 9/11 just happened, and then the book was over. wow.. bad reading choice. my book was excellent though! i read the help by kathryn stockett. i would read it again. definitely.

friday was definitely the hottest day of the week. we had breakfast then decided we would get a movie from the lounge. we got 'finding nemo' and 'i'm not there' (movie/documentary about bob dylan. good cast... heath ledger, cate blanchett, christian bale, richard gere, michelle williams). we watched movies until lunch, then headed to the world cafe for yet another meal of pizza. then back to the room to relax until our spa appointments. this time, ju got the reflexology and i got the 'sweet dreams' package, which included coco exfoliation, coco hydrotherapy, aloe wrap, and a relaxing massage.

saturday, we had breakfast then got all of our things ready to come home. car picked us up at 12. flight left at 3:30. we didn't get back home until a little after 11. so we were tired (how is it that traveling makes you so tired?) but sooooo ready to be home. our animals missed us and we missed them! took us about 2 hours to get them settled down. went to bed after 1 am and woke up at 7:55. just my luck.

overall, we had such a fabulous time!!! but it's certainly nice to be home :)

yesterday, we were lazy. i did a few things around the house, but i couldn't-and still can't-manage to make myself unpack. (i'm going to do it today.. hopefully). ju actually had to work, but only for a few hours. we watched the saints game (9-0!!!) and i semi-cleaned while watching--dusted, vacuum (ok, since we got ruby, ju says that when he asks me what i've done, vacuuming doesn't count anymore b/c it's only pushing a button! ha :), did laundry-which i was more than happy to do; i love laundry.. i know it's weird, but i do. and with a whole week of no laundry, i was pretty pumped about doing it... i guess my wonderful front loaders and red laundry room aid my enjoyment. oh, and of course did the dishes--i don't know why this is but i really despise unloading the dishwater. i don't mind loading it or even watching dishes by hand, but there's just something about unloading it. i cooked supper (yay for normal food!)... since we just got home, our options were lacking. and even though we'd just returned from many a seafood meal, tilapia was the only thing i could round up for us. we also had corn, rice, and yummy sister schubert rolls. i admit though, it was quite nice.

oh, i almost forgot... when we returned from dinner our last night, this was in our room :)

there are a few things about roombas that just seem... umm, so advanced (but in an amazing way). for example, the box says:

robot intelligence--roomba efficiently cleans the whole floor, under and around furniture and along walls.

self-adjusting cleaning head--automatically adjusts to clean carpets and hard floors.

avoids stairs--automatically senses and avoids stairs and other drop-offs.

edge cleaning capability--follows walls and reaches deep into corners to remove dust, dirt and debris.

detects dirt--roomba senses dirtier areas and cleans more thoroughly in those spots.

anti-tangle system--roomba won't get stuck on cords, carpet fringe or tassels.

simple operation--just press the clean button, roomba does the rest.

(also says: a powerful vacuum--two counter-rotating brushes and an efficient vacuum reach deep into your carpet to remove dirt, dust, and pet hair.)

and we can't forget about the virtual walls and lighthouses. the roomba comes with 2 virtual wall/lighthouses. you use the virtual walls to confine the roomba/not let it pass. you use the lighthouses to guide the roomba from room to room. you don't have to use the virtual walls or lighthouses--it still cleans the entire house when you simple press clean and have nothing set up. but it goes in kind of a different pattern. the virtual walls and lighthouses will more than likely simply shorten the process. anywho, i haven't set mine up yet b/c i got the wrong batteries. the roomba booklet has 2 pages about the virtual walls/lighthouses. one page says the they require D batteries; the other page says C batteries. so, i bought D batteries only to come home and find out that they are too big. C it is. virtual walls/lighthouses or not, ruby still works marvelously.

oh, and the "spot" clean mode... you can place the roomba in a dirty area and press the "spot" button, and it cleans thoroughly in that spot (it goes around and around the area until it's clean). also, when it's in clean mode, it can detect dirtier areas, so it does the same thing. it's pretty neat.

so.. need i say more?! it does everything a regular vacuum does without the hassle... or without any work at all. it's basically vacuuming for lazy people. but hey, it gets the job done :)

i am learning that marriage, as with any relationship, is give and take. i'm working right now on not taking too much :) julius is a wonderful husband, and i am truly blessed to have him in my life.

we leave for our honeymoon this coming monday! hooooorraayyyy! dominican republic here we come! i'm so so ready to get out of charleston (and mississippi) for a week! and hopefully, we will see nothing but sun while we are there. oh my, i just can't wait!
it just occurred to me that i haven't blogged since the day before halloween.... well, halloween night was great! ju and i found last minute (and when i say last minute, i mean day-of) costumes-as a doctor and a nurse. it wasn't an original choice, but it was available. we both wore scrubs so we were super comfortable all night! we started here....drinks, appetizers, and cookies then headed to the country club around 8ish. and it's a good thing we left here at 8 b/c by the time we made all of our stops and finally arrived at the tcc, it was after 9. the band was good and there wasn't too big of a crowd (which i enjoy more than a huge crowd there). and being the old married couple that we are, ju and i were ready to go home by about 10:30. i know, i know... boooooorring. so home we came. in bed by midnight. :) but we had a blast (even if we wanted to come home so early)!

sunday, we were lazy (and a bit hungover). monday i subsitute taught at strider... i had the k4 class again. i just love them! but it was only until 11:30 so i went to oxford that afternoon. tuesday i cleaned and did lots of laundry. today i've had a pretty bad headache :( so i haven't done a lot--just my usual straightening up, loads of laundry, made some calls--dreams resort, att, holmes cc, minimal errands-which always seems to include the bank, and got supper ready. i made spaghetti b/c i had everything and it was easy. as much as i love cooking, sometimes i just want to cook the most simple meal.. just for a little break. after supper, we watched the new south park... hilarious, as usual! and tonight was the first episode-since the very first one this season-that it was just me and julius. normally, bailey and drew (and sometimes lex) come over for supper and the new episode. but tonight it was just us. and i loved it :)

so halloween is my favorite holiday and october my favorite month. the leaves begin changing into vibrant oranges, yellows, and reds. everyone decorates with pumpkins, gourds, skeletons, and ghosts. children dressed up in their costumes..... i just love halloween! sadly, i don't expect us to have any trick-or-treaters, as our house is located on a gravel road minutes away from town. not to mention, our closest neighbors are a mile away; and I don't recall seeing children at the house anyway. so... no trick-or-treaters :( but i won't let that stop me from having a fabulous halloween!

while we won't have trick-or-treaters, we will be having some friends over. every halloween, the country club here has a costume party, and they have a band. so we are going to that, but first we will pre-game, if you will, here... appetizers, drinks, and of course desserts! i'm pretty excited b/c i love having little get-togethers at our house!! and i love cooking in general, so making food for all of our get-togethers is lots of fun for me! i'm making a blt cheeseball, pumpkin whoopie pies, black, bat shaped sugar cookies, and pilsbury sugar cookies (the ones pre-cut with the halloween pictures/designs). and i'm still considering making baked hushpuppies--it's the deen brothers' recipe and while they look delicious, they also look like mini cornbread muffins (you make the baked hushpuppies in a mini muffin tin). so, i'm just not quite sure yet.

so... now the question is what will julius and i dress up as? and yes, i do understand that it is halfway through the day before halloween, and we still have no costumes. this is not unusual behavior for me... i'm always late in some form or fashion. anywho, we'll think of something.... hopefully :)

ok, well i hope everyone (ha.. like a bunch of people are reading this. all my fans ha :) has a safe and happy halloween!!

oh yeah, i know i've been slacking on recipes on fridays--this makes the 2nd friday in a row. so i'm going to post a couple of recipes soon.Molly Robersonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16196613194374837084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821055438293320453.post-14886950400427913272009-10-26T09:27:00.002-05:002009-10-26T09:28:39.399-05:00mid-week/weekend recapi've been pretty busy since the last time i blogged. julius' mom, mrs. kathy, and i went to memphis last wednesday for a day of shopping. it was lots of fun (as usual), but i was exhausted (as usual) after. anywho, i found some good stuff... mostly got clothes for the honeymoon, which we leave for 2 weeks from today!

so... wednesday, we shopped. thursday, i rested. friday, julius was off so we actually got to spend an entire day together! we were lazy and watched movies (i love you, man & adventureland). ju went hunting friday afternoon; alli came over, and we decided to indulge in wine starting at about 5:30. her boyfriend, seth, came over; ju killed a 9 pt (with his bow); then we ordered supper from our favorite place, 3 way. saturday was a big time cleaning day for us. ju was off again, so he tackled outside--the yard, cleaning off front and back porches, etc. i stayed inside and scrubbed, scrubbed, scrubbed the shower--all i can say is that i will never ever let our shower get that bad again! it took about an hour worth of hard scrubbing before it was satisfactory to me. my other big task of saturday was to clean out/organize the guest bedroom/office. ok, this room has been our dumping grounds ever since the house was ready.... surely you can get a mental image of a small room crammed full of boxes, wedding gifts, and the furniture that resides in the room. it took me at least 2 hours to get everything organized and cleaned out. ju took 9 boxes to storage; we took several boxes, along with towels and sheets/comforters, to bear lake (hunting camp); and many a boxes to the trash. but it feels good to walk in this room now and actually be able to see the floor!

the main reason for us going into maniac cleaning mode on saturday was that my parents came yesterday to visit :) i was so excited they wanted to come! it was great to see them. and it wasn't really that we thought my parents would care about any of our messes, it was more just the fact that these things needed to be done for a while now--my parents' coming just gave us the nudge we needed to get started.

my parents also brought our wedding gift..... irobot roomba 560!!!

i have been wanting a roomba for a while now. and on friday, the vacuum cleaner i had, which was pretty old anyway, died--i was vacuuming, then started smelling something. so i cut off the vacuum, went to where it was plugged up (i guess i went here just to make sure it wasn't on fire or something), then went back to cut it on and it blew black smoke out of each side then died. so, the roomba's arrival sunday was perfect timing!

we have used ruby (that's the roomba's name.. ruby roomba) twice now and she's done a great job. so far, we are very happy with ruby :)

today on the agenda is laundry and flowerbeds. mrs. kathy and i are going to give the flowerbeds a face lift today ;) we planted the beds right when the house was ready-so a few months ago-and all was well for a while, but a combination of me not being the best plant owner and the flooding it's done here these past 2 months have murdered most of our plants :( so mrs. kathy and i are going to fix the flowerbeds! i'm trying to get into gardening---and slowly but surely, i am.

i hate being sick. but then again, who really likes being sick?! anyway, i'm sick, and i hate it. it started around last thursday, my sinuses started acting up--that's all i thought it was. until saturday. i began to feel it in my chest :( so here we are today-sunday-still not feeling well. at least i can breathe through my nose again (which just happened late yesterday evening). but still, congestion sucks. not to mention, it hurts when you have what i like to call a 'coughing spell.' so today, since i'm feeling sick, i have done nothing but look at places to honeymoon--no, we still haven't booked it. when you're married to a farmer, farming comes first (actually, ju's dad said we could of course go right after the wedding, but ju, being the great worker/son that he is, said he wanted to stay until they were finished since it's his first year.) so we decided to wait until the 2nd week in november. i have been going back and forth for months now trying to decide where for us to go----punta cana, dominican republic or st. james, barbados or tulum, mexico (where the resort is mere minutes away from the mayan ruins) or st. lucia or the french riveria (which is what i wanted, but ju told me that he wanted to go to the beach where they spoke english. i just said ok, even though not everyone in the dominican republic or mexico or barbados or wherever speak english.). anyway, today was the day to make a decision. we're going to punta cana, dominican republic and staying at dreams punta cana resort and spa. i'm extremely excited!! white sands, clear blue water, just me and ju.... ahh, i absolutely cannot wait!! only a few weeks until we are there :)

back to reality.... being sick. ugh. as i'm writing this blog, i'm drinking a large mug of chicken broth. i love chicken broth when i'm sick... it just makes me feel better somehow. my aunt, who's a nurse, says that it's scientifically proven that something in chicken broth helps you get better. whether that's actually true or not, i like to believe it. ju just went into work :( they are so behind b/c of all the rain. the sun is out-full force, so they're going to be cutting corn-full force! hopefully, we can have an entire week filled with sunshine! wouldn't that be nice?! according to the weather channel, we should have sun until like friday, i think. anywho, hopefully it will stay sunny, so they can finish cutting everything.

first of all... yes, i am aware that i may have used this expression as quite possibly the corniest blog title ever. but look at the logo i found. i bet either the title, confession, or logo somehow made you smile or at least half-smile. anybody?? :)

second, i love cooking so much that i thought i might share some of my recipes, as well as some of my cooking experiences, on fridays. why i picked friday? (maybe b/c today is friday?) no idea. but here we go.

easy beef potpie (or what i like to call 'vegetable and beef casserole')
it's super easy and includes vegetables and meat.. which makes it awesome not only for it's simplicity and ease, but also for it's delicious flavor. plus, you're getting your vegetables and beef in one dish.. not to mention, crescent rolls on top and as a side :)

11/2 pounds lean ground beef

2 8 oz pkgs of reduced-fat crescent rolls

2 cups refrigerated diced potatoes (i use fresh potatoes.. peel, cut, slice about 2 or 3, then boil them with butter, salt, and pepper--just to soften them a bit b/c the first time i made this, i didn't boil them first and whilethe casserole was done, the potatoes weren't quite there yet.)

1/2 onion (can use a whole if you like), diced

2 cups loose-pack frozen mixed vegetables

1 15 oz can of italian-style or regular sauce

1 14 1/2 oz can italian-style stewed tomatoes, undrained (i use regular petite diced tomatoes instead.. call me crazy for doing it, but i'm not really a fan of tomatoes-there's just great to cook with, as well as required in many recipes. so the last thing i want is huge hunks of stewed tomatoes in my casserole.)

2 teaspoons sesame seeds (i don't use these at all.. neither julius nor myself enjoy sesame seeds enough to actually incorporate them into a meal i/we prepared.)

preheat oven to 400. boil the diced potatoes with butter, salt, and pepper in a medium pot for 20ish minutes. meanwhile, in a large skillet, pour a smallish amount (think quarter of a cup or so) of olive oil over low heat-just to get it started-and add the diced onion. allow to cook for about 5 minutes, while increasing the heat every few (to eventually reach medium). add ground beef and cook over medium heat until cooked through, using a wooden spoon to break up meat as it cooks; drain off fat. stir mixed vegetables, drained potatoes, tomato sauce, and undrained stewed/petite diced tomatoes into meat mixture. bring to boiling--i then allow it to boil, while stiring occasionally, for about 5 to 7 minutes. while mixture is boiling, unroll crescent rolls and fit to baking dish (9 x 13) using fingers to press and stretch and all that good stuff. spoon mixture into baking dish. bake uncovered for 15 minutes. after the 15 minutes, remove from oven and add second can of crescent rolls to the top--just as before, use fingers to stretch, etc so they will cover (or mostly cover) the top of the casserole. return to oven for another 10ish minutes or until the crescent roll top is golden brown.

be sure to let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

also, if you like-and we do like, as we are a crescent roll family-bake an additional can of crescent rolls on a separate pan and brush with butter first... just to add a little side to the casserole :)

i wish i had taken a picture last night, but i didn't. so next time, i'll be sure to do that just for the blog!Molly Robersonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16196613194374837084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821055438293320453.post-45374188330062775982009-10-16T08:52:00.007-05:002009-10-17T19:02:44.421-05:00Happy Housewife
<strike>Desperate </strike>Happy Housewife

<img $r="true" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhINJkqD6B6xKo4BJGbl_U_dQxIUGGiEho155ok9AM8jlZ-SH1r-arj7ghhS3j9veQ9Dn70rql6Fbp8XrS-6QiUajCT5j6E_3zTu3WcOMc6M68Misgc4qvuMnFRrkceI85uo632dha5YGo/s320/happy+housewife.jpg" />

So, as of right now, I don't have a job--well, a paying job that is. I think people tend to underestimate the value of a housewife! I mean, it's not like I just sit at home all day watching tv! I'm working too! Here's my typical routine:

*wake up when ju does (anywhere from 5:30 to 7:30, but sometimes I allow myself to sleep in til 8:30)
*breakfast, shower and get ready, etc
*wash 1st load of clothes
*dust (yes, I dust almost every day)
*vacuum (yes, I try my best to vacuum the entire house every day (not that the house is that big :))
*straighten up house--put things where they belong, that sort of thing
*straighten up porch (Ellie thinks it's her duty to drag-every shoe that's outside, along with the flyswatter and magazine that's she has torn to shreds and her toys-all over the porch, to the side of the house, to the tree in the yard, etc etc)
*lunch while attempting to find something on tv (daytime television absolutely sucks!)
*wash next load of clothes
*clean bathroom--counters and toilet just about every day; shower every so often
*start thinking about supper--it seems as though I take a trip into town to the grocery store every couple of days :(
*now comes my tv time--around 2 or 3 (I keep things recorded on the DVR in the bedroom)
*wait for ju to get home (if he's at work)--wash another load of clothes, if needed; start cooking supper, fold all clothes, etc

So my point is... I just don't sit around and do nothing all day! Ok, ok.. I'll get off my soapbox now! :)

Seriously though, I am very much enjoying being married (and a happy housewife for now). It's so wonderful to be able to go to sleep and to wake up next to my husband! I just keep thinking how blessed we are! I am also enjoying cooking, so it's great to be able to cook Julius breakfast and have supper ready for him when he comes in--I try to wait until he's about to be home, no matter the time, to have it ready--but sometimes, if it's really late and I'm absolutely starving, I just have to go ahead. All this cooking is a result of no job (happy housewife :). Another thing that's wonderful is that I'm here to do whatever needs to be done. For example, thank you notes-which have been ordered, but aren't ready yet, laundry, straightening up, running to the store-either in town or to Batesville to Walmart (yes, we have to drive 20ish minutes to get to a Walmart) or to Southaven to Sam's-or to town to the bank or whatever... just any little thing that needs to be done, I have the time to do it. I am in control. That might be one of the main positives to me of not working... the control that you have. When I used to work, all I could think about in every free minute I had was what I needed to be doing--at that time, it was wedding planning! I would make list after list of what I had to do when I got home or to Charleston. Perhaps lists are another thing that helps me be in control.

Alright, well I guess I've rambled enough for now :) That's the thing (or perhaps beauty) with a blog... Sometimes, you don't have anything to say; other times, you can't shut up so you just ramble. Ahh.. how there's a pro and con for everything.Molly Robersonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16196613194374837084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821055438293320453.post-63466639031997741302009-10-14T22:32:00.011-05:002009-10-16T14:32:44.688-05:00more pictures
me with my new family :)
